Living Out the Mission

MICAH’S mission is to mobilize congregations and people of all faiths to ensure decent, safe and affordable housing for everyone in the Twin Cities metropolitan community. Our 50 member congregations represent a wide array of faith perspectives: Christian, Jewish, and Muslim. Other members include religious, housing, and advocacy organizations.

MICAH lives out the prophetic vision of its namesake, the prophet Micah, who calls us "to do justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly with God."

  • Believing that God intends for all people to be decently housed, we speak boldly in the public arena, calling on all decision-makers to support affordable housing, particularly for those who can least afford it.

MICAH member congregations work to advance public policy to increase the production and preservation of affordable housing throughout the metropolitan area.

  • At the regional level, MICAH congregations urge the Metropolitan Council to adopt policies and strategies to increase the development of workforce housing throughout the metro area.
  • At the local level, members work to build community support for new affordable housing units and to prevent the demolition of existing housing. During the past 3 years over 2,700 families with low-incomes found a place to call home because of MICAH. In addition, members work to strengthen cities’ land use plans, increase density in zoning, and establish procedures that support affordable housing.
  • At the state level, MICAH plays a leadership role in Housing Minnesota, a broad based coalition formed to increase the state’s commitment to affordable housing.

MICAH educates congregations and the community about affordable housing.

MICAH provides educational materials and presentations on affordable housing issues to congregations and the general public.
